Dubai has a hot desert climate year-round — even the "cool" season (November–March) sits at a pleasant 19–30 °C, while summer (June–September) is brutally hot and humid at 34–41 °C, with a heat index that can feel close to 48 °C. Indoors, air-conditioning is powerful everywhere — malls, taxis, restaurants — so a light layer is genuinely useful even in July. Desert safaris involve an outdoor evening, and temperatures there drop noticeably after sunset, even in summer.

Dubai is more liberal than much of the Gulf, but modest dress is expected in public places, and required at mosques and in Old Dubai's souks: shoulders and knees covered for both men and women, and women should carry a light scarf to cover their hair when visiting a mosque (the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi provides free abayas at the entrance if needed). Beachwear and swimwear are fine at beach clubs, hotel pools and the beach itself, but should stay there — cover up before heading into malls or restaurants. Alcohol is legal but only served in licensed venues (hotel bars/restaurants); it isn't sold in most supermarkets.
